An SRS (software requirements specification) is a report about software that is planning to be developed. It is collectively agreed on by all teams involved, with the software developer or technical copywriter usually responsible for writing the report.

The report should specify the purpose of the software, how it will function, performance expectations, required features, costs involved, any potential risks and the scope for delivery. It should be as in-depth as possible to minimise future redesigns.
